  1. What opportunities and challenges does your company face?

The industry’s willingness to adapt to the new energy strategy in Canada has opened the door for many opportunities to improve operational processes, thus efficiencies and safety.

Beyond the new regulatory environment, utilities must continue to strive for competitiveness in order to survive. This creates an opportunity in itself for innovation in all aspects of the business; from enhancing system integrity to investing in product and knowledge management solutions.

The challenges we face are tied to the speed of product innovation adoption, which are highly regulated and slow. Also, retirement cycles pose issues with regards to training and knowledge drain.

  1. In your opinion, what will be the role of natural gas in the next 50 years?

Natural gas is an affordable, abundant, clean-burning, versatile, reliable and safe energy choice that will be used for decades.  Natural gas will continue to be used in its traditional market areas in communities across the country. But we will see natural gas used more for power generation as a transportation fuel. We will also likely see growth in the production of renewable natural gas.
