A Message from the President and CEO of CGA (Issue 3, 2016)

Timothy M. Egan - President

In this issue of ENERGY we explore a few themes that have made headlines throughout 2016 – including energy, the environment, federal/provincial collaboration and the U.S election – all of which will continue to be top of mind going into 2017. First, Christopher Sands, our Canada-U.S. columnist discusses the nuances of public support for energy innovation. He explains the importance of government and private investments in bringing energy technology to markets. Next is a piece from our markets contributor, Dina O’Meara, who explores power-to-gas technology and how one Canadian company is taking the lead in bringing it to market. From there, we go to Diane Francis, who offers her perspective on some of the energy-related implications of Donald Trump’s presidential election victory in the United States.  The U.S. election is a point of focus for many around the world and Canada is no exception. But we are also looking to domestic politics and particularly the federal-provincial discourse that is continuing to evolve under the Trudeau government.  Our political commentators provide some thoughts on how this relationship is developing in the wake of recent federal announcements. Finally, Senator Grant Mitchell, explains Bill S-229 – An Act respecting underground infrastructure safety and how it will significantly enhance the integrity of critical underground infrastructure. As always, we hope these articles provide good food for thought as you prepare for a holiday season. Merry Christmas to all of you from all of us.
