A Message from the President and CEO of CGA (Issue 2, 2015)

Timothy M. Egan - President

Welcome to the second issue of ENERGY 2015. This issue covers a lot of ground but, like Canada’s gas utilities, has a particular focus on the customer. We start with some interesting, and maybe even a bit surprising, facts on consumer spending on energy. Next we have Diane Francis’ interview with Maria van der Hoeven, the outgoing Executive Director of the International Energy Agency. Ms. van der Hoeven offers some perspectives on her term at the IEA, the evolving global LNG trade, the impact of lower oil and gas prices, and access to affordable energy in developing countries. Then Dina O’Meara profiles the new Presidents of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers – Tim McMillan – and the Canadian Electricity Association – Sergio Marchi – on the key priorities of their organizations. Dina also has a piece on how large and small customers are benefiting from the affordability of natural gas thanks to abundant gas supplies. Manfred Klein’s Environmental Notebook offers an in-depth look at methane. Finally, our commentators assess how the interests of the energy customer may play in the upcoming federal election campaign.

As always, we hope you find this informative and interesting. We welcome your comments, so please let us know what you think!
